Surprise! A Stately Give-Away for You

I'm so excited to announce my very first give-away on this blog.   I've talked about the beautiful and majestic Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC all week, and now I'm going to give you the opportunity to see the estate for yourself.

Every season is gorgeous at Biltmore. Currently, the Festival of Flowers is underway at the Estate.  In April, 100,000 tulips in the Walled Garden and around the estate, will shine in hues of purple, orange, yellow and white. By May, the show continues with irises, peonies, and acres of azaleas, with summer blooms soon to follow.   This is Biltmore's 26th year highlighting its Festival of Flowers.  The festival runs through May 15th.

On July 1, Biltmore will welcome Tiffany at Biltmore, an exhibition of 45 stained glass lamps created by Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933) and The Tiffany Studios. The exhibition will fill The Biltmore Legacy exhibition hall in Antler Hill Village through Oct. 23. The exhibition, known as “Tiffany Lamps: Articles of Utility, Objects of Art,” comes to Biltmore from The Neustadt Collection of Tiffany Glass in New York City. It is an in‐depth look at Tiffany’s efforts to produce lamps that balance artistry with utility and profitability. It features 45 stunning lamps in an array of colors, sizes and decorative styles, and includes tools, materials and period photographs to demonstrate how the lamps were made.

Tiffany-inspired designs and events will spring up across the estate during the exhibition:
  •        The Horticulture team is planning a large-scale Tiffany-inspired design in the Walled Garden. They are in the process of designing  a 40-foot dragonfly pattern for that area. Also, they will create a “living” stained glass wall six feet tall and 30 feet wide populated with plants that mimic Tiffany colors.
  •       The Floral department is creating a “growing” Tiffany-style lamp in the Winter Garden inside Biltmore House
  •          Biltmore resident blacksmith, Doc Cudd, is creating large wrought iron Tiffany-style “lamp stands” with frames on top where baskets of Tiffany-colored flowers will mimic lamp shades. These will be on display in Antler Hill Village, as a prelude, of sorts, to entering the Legacy building, where the exhibition will be housed.
During opening weekend of the Tiffany event – July 1-3 – the estate will have activities for visitors in Antler Hill Village, which is right outside of the Legacy building where the Tiffany exhibition will be held.  Each of those days, there will be face painting, a balloon artist, glass blowing demonstrations, stained glass demonstrations, live music and kids’ crafts.  This will be a great weekend for families!

And of course, Biltmore is absolutely stunning in the fall and during the Christmas holidays.  Christmas at Biltmore will begin November 4, 2011.

Filled with greenery and soft lights, George Vanderbilt's Library takes on a warm glow during the Christmas season in Biltmore House.
Your two Biltmore Estate Passes will be good for one year from the date they are issued so you will have plenty of time to plan your trip to the Biltmore Estate and Asheville, NC.  A winner will be announced on  April 25, 2011
