Whenever my husband and I go anywhere, we usually reflect on our experience on our way home. If my husband says, "I would go back!" then that is a true honor for any establishment. My dad was in the restaurant business for over 30 years. I grew up in restaurants. It's no secret that I love good food, and dining out. The following are places we recommend.
Restaurants
Chuck's
237 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC
Dined June 2012
I rarely put a restaurant on this list if I have been only one time, but this restaurant gets an exception. It's casual, delicious, and memorable. The burger combinations make you step out of your "regular, burger comfort-zone" and taste a burger like a foodie. I got the Bradley-Time burger. I will be back. You can get s a small taste of my experience at Chuck's here.
Carolina Crossroads
The Carolina Inn, Chapel Hill, NC
Dined March 22, 2012
Will and I sampled the spring menu at this Forbes Four-Star restaurant, and were quite impressed with every dish. The dining room is bright, cheery, and inviting. I definitely would dine again at Carolina Crossroads. It is worthy of a special occasion. My experience at this restaurant can be found here.
The Gallery Restaurant
The Ballantyne Hotel, Charlotte, NC
Dined February 19, 2012
Will and I had a delightful meal at the Gallery Restaurant during out stay at the Ballantyne Hotel and Lodge in Charlotte, NC. Honestly, I had the best coconut cake that I have ever tasted. My post on my extraordinary experience can be found here.
JBetski's
10 West Franklin St, Suite 120, Raleigh, NC
Dined in September 2011
A girlfriend and I had a wonderful dinner here on a weeknight in October. My husband hasn't really tried it yet so I don't know if it should officially make our list yet, but I'm going to say "give it a try." I personally love, heavy, comfort-type German food so October was a great time to go. They actually had me with the roasted beet salad, horseradish quark, and toasted pumpkinseed oil salad. It was great. My friend adores the chocolate-hazelnut torte with sea salt, caramel, and crispy bacon.
The Raleigh Times Bar
14 East Hargett Street, Raleigh, NC
Dined in December 2011 and January 2012
Fantastic pub food, and a great selection of beers. I selected the beer steamed pastrami on rye, and a wonderful chocolate stout.
Fleming's Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar
4325 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC
Dined on November 30, 20011, December 13, 2011 and July 21, 2012
We had a fabulous dinner at Fleming's. The filet is melt-in-your mouth delicious, and the cheesecake is heavenly. My review can be found here.
Dos Taquitos Centro
106 South Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC
Dined on November 3, 2011
I've dined at this festive, cozy, and authentic Mexican and Latin-American influenced restaurant several times this year. Each time, I've taken a night off from blogging, and have just enjoyed my meal without thinking about a future post. I love their classic margarita which is called the anniversario. The steak tacos with cilantro-rice and refried beans are delicious, and have a difficult time NOT choosing them each time I go. The Col Relleno pleases, too. On our last visit, I splurged with some extra calories, and tried the Guava flan. It was creamy, savory, and we almost licked the plate. It was THAT good! Give Dos Taquitos a try when you are in Raleigh.
The Pit-Raleigh
328 W. Davie Street, Raleigh, NC
Dined on May14, 2011 and January 21, 2012
This restaurant is a true taste of the South! My husband dined on BBQ, coleslaw and sweet potato fries. I had the delicious and tender beef brisket, fried okra, and collard greens. This is a restaurant not to miss if you are ever in Raleigh. This blog post has all the juicy details. For my second visit, I had a vegetable plate.
Sitti-Authentic Lebanese
137 S Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC
Dined on April 30, 2011, August 12, 2011 and on December 11, 2011
I adored the Sitti Salad at this restaurant. My entree was a salmon special that is not regularly on the menu. It was prepared so well, and I was extremely pleased with our entire dining experience. We look forward to going back. Here's a complete recap from our August meal.
Gravy
135 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC
Dined in February 28, 2011 and March 26, 2011
We enjoyed this restaurant so much that we went back sooner than later. The food is wonderful. The first trip I had spaghetti and meatballs, and on my return trip, I had the eggplant pie. The eggplant pie is going to be hard to beat.
Second Empire Restaurant and Tavern
330 Hillsborough Street, Raleigh, NC
Dined on April 8, 2011 and November 18, 2011
If you follow my blog then you know from my wedding fever post that I hosted my wedding reception in the main part of the Second Empire Restaurant. This restaurant is sentimental for many reasons, however, the food is top-notch. You won't be disappointed. We especially adore the Tavern. When you dine in the Tavern, you have your choice of eating off the main upstairs menu or the Tavern menu. We love having the choices. We dined in the Tavern for our 9th anniversary, and it was a fabulous meal. We made our selections off of the Spring 2011 menu. My appetizer was the Crispy Empire Chili Relleno. I loved it, and it ranks as one of the best chili rellenos that I've experienced. For my entree, I had the Grilled Scottish Salmon Fillet with yukon golden potato and carrot mash, collard greens, broccolini and beets, cottage cheese, and horseradish thyme sauce. It was phenomenal. I went back in November 2011 to celebrate a friend's birthday. Once again, I got the chili relleno, but it was a little spicy for me this time. Everyone had a super meal though.
The Fearrington House Restaurant
2000 Fearrington Village Center, Pittsboro, NC
Most Recent Visit: September 2010
I've had the pleasure of dining at this quaint and elegant restaurant twice in the past several years. The food is outstanding, and it makes for a wonderful gastronomic dining experience. As a member of Relais and Chateaux properties, the Fearrington House lives up to this membership's reputation.
