Hotels Can Put the "Merry" in Christmas #IGTRAVELThursday

My Instagram feed is filled with mulled cider, holiday cookies, lights, and trees. I love it! Looking at the hashtag #SkimbacoHolidays really puts me in the holiday spirit. I was at Walt Disney World over the Thanksgiving holiday, and there, I got a head start on feeling festive. Disney is always magical, but the resorts truly shine this time of year.

This photo that I snapped while staying at the Yacht Club wins "most popular" among my Instagram friends. I don't know if it had to do with the fact that it was one of the first photos I published on my trip, but it got one of the best responses of all.

I'll be sharing more holiday photos this month so I hope you visit the blog again in your spare time so you can see some of my favorite photos. Hotels can certainly do holiday decor well.  I plan to visit as many local hotels as I can this month to show some of the best like this one at the Grand Floridian. Now THAT is a tree!

I'll be instagramming from the Washington Duke Inn in Durham, N.C. on December 8 while I get to chat with Santa. I'll be sure to tell him that you all said hello.

I'll also be showcasing other holiday photos from hotels on IG  this month.  To kick things off, I am sharing my love for the Four Seasons Instagram account again.  The Four Seasons Las Vegas Hotel delighted me with this "Santa Sighting" this week.

I wonder if the Four Seasons Las Vegas barista can do "Elvis", too.  Well, in this case, "what happens in Vegas is definitely not staying in Vegas," because this coffee shot is too good not to share. PRESS, is the hotel's new lounge that is open morning through late night. This chic space overlooks the hotel's private pool. Not putting any pressure on the barista, but it would be fun to see a snowman, too. You can read more about PRESS on the Four Seasons Las Vegas website.

And finally, I leave with you the fastest hotel tree decorating in Instagram history. The Four Season Beverly Wilshire has 53 amazing trees throughout the hotel. With that many trees, they certainly need a magical elf to decorate in no time. Enjoy!

Leigh's Frivolous Friday: Ski or Beach?

When I was in the news business, I was always a thorn in my news director's side.  He was a hard news junkie, and I loved "feel-good"  features with a capital F.

I loved the creativity of features, the thrill of meeting new people when they were actually happy to see the news truck coming, and the fact that I was covering a story for the news that was not controversial or negative in nature.  Mr. News Whiz thought my little feature ideas were frivolous news stories, but by the end of the week, I would wear him down and I would get my wish.   He would allow the assignment editor to give me some type of  feature to end the newscast on Friday so the anchors could laugh and say, " That Leigh is having fun. Goodnight! Have a great weekend everyone. Thanks for keeping it right here on Channel 3."  He allowed this for two reasons.

  1. He was so tired of my constant complaining that he would finally give in to me.
  2. By Friday, there is so little news to cover in a small television market that the producers are always looking to fill air-time.
Well, I loved my "Frivolous Fridays" in the newsroom, and truthfully, it's a big part of who I am as a person.  I like to talk about a lot of things that some people may find well, frivolous.

As a result,  I have created the first of what I hope to be a Hines-Sight Blog staple this year.

I'm calling the posts Leigh's Frivolous Friday, and they will appear once in awhile.   Now, get ready for a very important question.

If you were planning a vacation in the next three months, would you choose ski?

or beach?

The Four Seasons Nevis

Truthfully, I would take either vacation, especially if I stayed in a Four Seasons Resort.   The luxury hotel chain unveiled a new website and trend report this week.  As a result,  I've lost many countless hours staring at hotel destinations.

But to be fair,  I've asked you what you would choose this very minute.   It's only fair that I answer my own question.  Right now, as my toddler screams at me for a paci that she shouldn't have, I would choose a beach destination, which I believe would be perfect as an escape from the daily grind of being a mom.  It would be nice to sit by the pool, and relax.  I'm not looking for an active vacation right now.   I would prefer to do absolutely nothing!!!

Also, I've stayed at the Four Seasons Whistler, and it is a delight.  We went in 2005, B.C...that is... BEFORE CHILDREN.  I'm not a skier, but I love a great hotel in the middle of a charming ski town.  Also, now that I have children, I love how Four Seasons caters to the smallest guest.  Four Seasons Whistler does not disappoint in this area nor does Nevis.

I guess the best of both worlds would be Four Seasons Nevis this week, and Four Seasons Whistler the next week.

What would you want?

Don't forget that I'm giving away a wonderful Southern cookbook from Raleigh.  The deadline to enter is Jan. 16.  Also, mark your calendar for Friday, January 27 for Let's Eat, Ya'll! with Flip Flops and Pearls and my blog.  Daphne and I are joining forces to bring you one big monthly link-up filled with great recipes.

Have a great weekend, and enjoy dreaming about your next vacation at a Four Seasons Resort.

Wednesday's Wish We Were Here: Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo

Quick Note: Congratulations to Danielle Knapp!  She is the winner of the $25 Wendy's Giftcard. Thanks to all who entered this contest, and a special thank you to Wendy's for having the Hines-Sight Blog be part of the Berrytasty giveaway.

We can only have one winner, but we all can daydream a little in Wednesday's Wish We Were Here

Today, we are virtually visiting The Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo. This hotel and destination is definitely on my "one-day" list. I have a running joke with my husband.   He has always wanted to go to Costa Rica even before we married nine years ago.  When I learned that Four Seasons established a hotel there, I said to him, "Okay, we can go to Costa Rica now."  Of course, we got busy with one child then another, but our ten year anniversary is next year.  Let's dream BIG, right?

Isn't this photo gorgeous?

Check out this extraordinary lobby.

This pool looks so tranquil.  I see a chair for us.

Can anything be more perfect?

This room would suit me just fine.

This is how I like to sit on a beach.

The Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica is a very family friendly resort, and loves to host little guests.   The hotel has babysitting services,  special meal plans, toiletries, and child-sized bathrobes.  The Kids For All Seasons program at this luxury resort offers exciting adventures in a natural location for children and young adults aged 4 to 12 years.  I just need about three or four more years then my children will be at the perfect age to enjoy the fun.

Summer is sizzling at the Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica with lots of packages and deals.  If you have always wanted to go then now may be the time to do so. The Resort is offering a package where the fifth night is free, or a package with $100 up to $500 resort credit depending on the type of room.  The credit can be on food, golf, spa or even the room rate.   These are just two of the many packages currently available.

Hope you enjoyed your two-minute virtual vacation.  I'll  leave you with one last image to help us get through the rest of our busy day. Ah! Wouldn't this place be great?
