Instagram Travel Link-Up: The Myrtle Beach Marriott Resort and Spa

I am beyond thrilled to co-host the new Instagram Travel Thursday linky with some of my favorite bloggers, who I now call, my friends. We are going to be here each week sharing the joy of travel through Instagram photos.

In my bio, Katja wrote that I have a slight hotel obsession. She's starting to know her luxury travel editor well. Since she said that, I thought it would be only fitting for me to share my recent visit to the Myrtle Beach Marriott Resort and Spa at Grande Dunes, located on South Carolina's beautiful Grand Strand, with you.

I sent my two kids to the beach with Will.

I hurriedly left my mom's beach house, Surf Chalet, in North Myrtle Beach, and hightailed it 20 minutes south.

Truthfully, I think the conversation went with my husband like this, "Here are their swimsuits, sunscreen, and I may be gone all day. Bye!" I think I let the back door hit me in the behind because I got out of there so quickly.

My day was planned. A tour of Myrtle Beach's only Four Diamond oceanfront resort, lunch at Ocean's on 82nd, and a luxurious massage in the Hibiscus Spa. Since my family owns Surf Chalet, I never get to see luxury hotels when I visit the Myrtle Beach area.  This was a royal treat, and this oceanfront resort reminds me of paradise.

There are two outdoor pools, an indoor pool, and two outdoor restaurants.

The beach is just steps away, too.

I dined in the hotel's more formal restaurant, Ocean's on 82nd, by the sea. My entree, the Cobb Lobster Salad, was fantastic.

But, the true crown jewel came with this key lime pie.

I honestly don't remember having a key lime pie this good since I ate a slice of pie in Key West,  Florida in 1997. This was fantastic. I may have to go back to Myrtle to get another slice the next time I visit.

Somehow I managed to roll myself downstairs to the Hibiscus Spa for my spa appointment with Christine.  The Hibiscus Spa is a peaceful sanctuary without ocean views, but your time here will truly make your vacation relaxing.  Relaxation areas are cozy, and serene.

I was happy to trade my Jack Rogers wedges for spa slippers.

I visited the Myrtle Beach Marriott Resort and Spa at Grande Dunes during their busiest time so I was not able to see a room on this visit. They were booked. Room rates start at $339 during the summer.  It's also important for parents to note that the hotel has a very active Kid's Club, too.

I think these two would approve of the Myrtle Beach Marriott Resort and Spa at Grande Dunes just like their mama does.  I did not lie to my husband.  I was pretty much gone all day on my outing. But, it's hard to pry yourself away from a place that looks like this.

#TRAVELTUESDAY: The Grand Strand of South Carolina

Greetings from North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Follow our Grand Strand adventures on Instagram.

We are receiving lots of rain this week so our beach time has been limited, but I did find a new favorite drink.  Let me introduce you to the Coconut Cloud from the Tommy Bahama Tropical Cafe, located at The Market Common. Delicious! You cannot stop at one.

I raise my martini glass to you, and wish your family a Happy 4th of July week!

#TRAVELTUESDAY: The Grand Strand of South Carolina

Myrtle Beach Days

We have had lots of fun on the Grand Strand this weekend.  We lived it up at my mom's cottage for our last summer fling. The bathing suits will be put away, but our summer travel memories will remain in our hearts.

Living it up at Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach, SC
Truthfully, we did not have enough time down here to do all that we wanted to do on this trip. You could spend an entire month here, and still just scratch the surface on the things to do in the area. North Myrtle Beach to Pawley's Island, is a lot of miles to cover, but with great highways in the area, the grand strand is your world to discover while on vacation.

My new discovery on this trip was the restaurant: Flying Fish Public Market and Grill at Barefoot Landing.

The Flying Fish Market and Grill
I had the chopped BBQ chicken salad.  It was divine. The Flying Fish Public Market and Grill is a locally-owned restaurant which I always try to seek out on my travels.  I also like Liberty Steakhouse and Brewery at Broadway at the Beach in the heart of the Grand Strand, but we didn't make it there this time.  The TBonz restaurant group also  added an Italian restaurant at Broadway shopping area,  too.  I'll put that on my list for my next visit.

But truthfully, we spent a lot of time being lazy at my mom's cottage. This is the view from the front porch.  The cottage is across the street from the ocean, and you can be on the beach within minutes.  It's in an area with few high-rises so the beach is rarely crowded.

With four bedrooms, three baths, and a room with a sleeper sofa in it, the cottage is perfect for fall shopping or golf trips.

For more information on the North Myrtle Beach area, visit the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce Convention and Visitors Bureau.
My crew will be sad to pack up their bathing suits for the summer.  They love the beach, and coming to MiMa's house.

I may not be back in this space this week, but you can find me on Facebook, Twitter, Skimbaco, and TriangleMom2Mom.

Talk to you soon.

Myrtle Beach Days

Goodbye, Summer. Hello, Grand Strand Plus Other News

Can you believe that we just got home from Virginia, and we’re packing up and taking off again? Our destination is a quick trip to South Carolina’s Grand Strand. We’re staying at MiMa’s cottage, and it’s our last beach trip of the summer. Truthfully, we’re just going down for the fried shrimp and the outlet shopping.  I’m kidding, sort of.

Before we go, I wanted to share a few things with you to wrap up the month.

We are officially back in school.  Sleeping in is a thing of the past. I try to be up at 6 a.m. every day. I really need that morning time to sip my tea, and, well, just sit there for 30 minutes.  Afternoons are now rushed.  That time of the day from afternoon pickup to getting dinner on the table is not smooth sailing. I really try to plan meals that are simple and easy. I hope you checked out the four back-to-school meals I shared on Monday. Out of those four, the pasta, broccoli, and tofu meal is the easiest, and is the family favorite.  As a proud mom, I had to share my son's first day in first grade. His little sister didn't want to leave the classroom. She starts preschool next week.  Yea!

I have a first grader.

Speaking of food, I ate like a queen when I was in Roanoke, Virginia, and at the Homestead Resort.  I would hate to count up the calories I consumed in one day, but my attitude is that a vacation is about indulging; not calorie-counting.  You can head over to Skimbaco to get a taste of my indulging habits, and I also have a new favorite craft brew.

If you are a blogger reading this, then you know that as a blogger you make some fabulous online friends blogging.  People who don’t blog really don’t understand this, but trust me, it happens, and it’s wonderful.  You exchange email pleasantries from time to time, and you catch up with each other by reading your respective blogs.  As you all know, I don’t have much talent other than checking into a luxury hotel, but the DIY bloggers in the blog world are so talented.  You know who they are:  You pin their work on Pinterest like crazy.

Check this baby out!

Sutton Place Designs
My blogging friend Ann of On Sutton Place sent me her handiwork from her Etsy shop in the form of this vintage grain sack tote.  Apparently, I have some luck because I won her giveaway by linking up this post about what a llama taught me aboutblogging.

To see a blogging friend’s own beautiful work was awe-inspiring.  She is so talented.  She gave up her job in education this year to nurture her own business.  She is on her way to a successful year.  The vintage French grain totes are $65.  As the holidays approach, Ann also has some cute items that would make great gifts.  I’m fond of her tea towels and lavender sachets.  If you visit her, please tell her that I sent you.

Have a great Labor Day weekend!

And for my local Triangle friends, mark your calendars for the First United Methodist Church-Cary 20th Annual Children’s Consignment Sale beginning Friday, September 14-15.  You can find all the details on the sale’s website, and they are still seeking consignors this year.  I just spent $160 at Target on Friday for some basics like socks, underwear, boy’s jeans, toddler Champion sneakers in fuchsia, and some school snacks. Raising children can certainly put a dent in your wallet, so definitely check out the sale if you are in the area.  The proceeds support the church’s missions.
